Occupational safety and inclusion take center stage as NSW and Paralympians commemorate International Day of People with Disability
The NSW Government has reiterated its appeal to employers to prioritise workplace safety and to ensure the inclusion of individuals with disabilities or those recuperating from severe injuries, in recognition of International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD).
The State Government says IDPwD is viewed as an opportunity for employers to affirm their commitment to eliminating barriers, enhancing disability inclusion, and reinforcing health and safety measures in the workplace.
Scott Reardon, a distinguished Paralympic champion and icare speaker stands out as an inspiring para-athlete who has endured a workplace injury. He engages with businesses at no expense to foster awareness of workplace health and safety through the icare Paralympics Speakers program.
In collaboration with Paralympics Australia, the initiative offers companies and their staff free access to both current and former Paralympians who acquired their disability due to work-related injuries.
Minister for Work Health and Safety Sophie Cotsis said, “International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) is a great time to make a commitment within your workplace to break down barriers, promote disability inclusion and commit to practices that keep your workers safe from serious injury and disability.”
The minister said every worker is entitled to a safe working environment and to return to their families after their shift ends.”
