WorkSafe New Zealand has adopted a new safety commitment from a renowned household brand, which is primarily focused on AI technology that offers real-time hazard alerts.

This follows an incident in March 2023 when a worker sustained chemical burns to his eyes while producing dishwasher powder.

An investigation by WorkSafe uncovered insufficient availability of personal protective equipment (PPE), especially in terms of eyewear. The findings also indicated significant deficiencies in staff training for chemical handling and a lack of established emergency management procedures.

Following the incident, the company is enacting a so-called "holistic cultural shift" focused on health and safety, with a financial commitment surpassing $323,000.
