Numerous worksites at risk from Tropical Cyclone Alfred
Resources Safety and Health Queensland (RSHQ) urges quarries in Southeast Queensland to take precautions in anticipation of Tropical Cyclone Alfred.
The resources regulator is responsible for the oversight of more than 400 sites in the southern region, with numerous sites expected to be in the path of the cyclone this week.
RSHQ’s Chief Inspector of Mineral Mines and Quarries Hermann Fasching said it is imperative for sites to address the risks posed by misfires, airborne dangers, and lightning strikes as Cyclone Alfred approaches.
“As Queenslanders, we’re no strangers to cyclones and neither are our mines and quarries,” said Mr Fasching.
“Sites need to make sure there are no structures that can become mid-air weapons during cyclonic winds.”
