NT WorkSafe urges workplaces to secure septic tanks lids

NT WorkSafe is reiterating its call for all workplaces in the Territory to examine the lids of septic tanks on their properties to ensure they are both safe and properly secured.

“Despite three incidents of children falling into septic tanks in the Northern Territory due to unsecured lids in the past two years, septic tanks with lids in a non-compliant state are still being identified,” NT WorkSafe said.

NT WorkSafe highlights that unsecured or fragile lids on septic tanks constitute a serious hazard if access to these lids is not properly restricted or managed.

The safety regulator warns that the likelihood of a fatal incident is heightened if someone were to fall into a septic tank, especially in the case of young children.
