NT WorkSafe urges workplaces to remain alert to the potential threat of melioidosis

NT WorkSafe is calling on all businesses in the Territory to exercise caution and take appropriate measures to protect workers from the risk of melioidosis.

Investigations revealed the worker had been engaged in gardening work prior to the diagnosis.

NT WorkSafe urges workplaces to take proactive steps to protect workers who are exposed to environments where bacteria may exist.

The safety watchdog states that failure to promptly address the presence of bacteria in these environments can lead to the contraction of melioidosis, a potentially fatal disease.
