WorkSafe inspectors are engaging with vegetable growers in the Top End rural area, as part of a new campaign aimed at providing information and guidance on worker induction, basic life-saving measures, and emergency response procedures.

According to WorkSafe, a significant portion of the vegetable production farming community in the Top End consists of Vietnamese growers.

Mr. Rob Fereday, the Manager for Safety Assurance at NT WorkSafe says the Agriculture, Forestry, and Fishing industries are identified as one of the five leading sectors for serious injuries in the Northern Territory.

“Some of these farmers are small family farms in a collective arrangement with other farms to share equipment and workers, and some farms are located some distance from the nearest medical centre,” Mr Fereday said.

“The campaign is focused on educating these farmers on the worker induction, first aid and emergency response requirements under the work health and safety laws.”
