The New South Wales Government says its efforts to bolster SafeWork NSW are proving effective, highlighted by the largest compliance crackdown in a decade, which has led to the issuance of over 500 non-compliance notices across the State.

In its initial days as an independent regulatory body under the leadership of its new Commissioner, SafeWork NSW conducted surprise inspections at nearly 400 high-risk workplaces and sectors.

Unsafe operations involving work at heights and the improper handling of moving equipment, vehicles, and fixed machinery ranked as the leading safety risks on worksites.

Main risks related to falls from heights involve unguarded edges and weak surfaces.

The compliance operation took place concurrently with SafeWork NSW's official transition to a separate agency on July 1, and the release of its new Annual Regulatory Statement for 2025-26.

The statement details the objectives that the safety agency intends to achieve in the upcoming year and the regulatory priorities it will prioritise.
