NSW mining company fined after workplace incident leaves man with serious foot injuries

A NSW mining company has been fined $300,000 over an incident that left a worker with serious injuries.

The worker suffered serious injuries to his toes and foot after he became entangled in a scraper conveyor on 8 June 2019.

On Wednesday, the company was convicted and fined $400,000, which was reduced by 25% for an early guilty plea.

The Resources Regulator’s Executive Director Peter Day said the decision by the District Court of NSW emphasised the importance of workplace safety.
