NSW meat company fined over hay bale injury

A meat company has been fined $300,000 over an incident that left a female worker with serious crush injuries.

The woman was struck by two hay bales, each weighing 700kg, while working at the company’s feed yard in Caroona in 2020.

The hay bales fell from a height of about 5m.

A SafeWork investigation found the company didn’t have a safe work procedure for the task the woman was undertaking.

The company was sentenced at the NSW District Court on Wednesday.
