NSW government pledges $5.6m to tackle psychological hazards in the workplace

The NSW Government has recently unveiled a strategy to assist employers in handling psychosocial risks and safeguarding their employees from psychological harm.

SafeWork NSW's Psychological Health and Safety Strategy for 2024-2026 details how the safety watchdog will assist employers in handling risks and meeting their obligation to prevent psychological harm in workplaces across the state.

A total of $5.6 million has been committed by the NSW Government for the implementation of workplace mental health initiatives for small and medium enterprises in collaboration with the Black Dog Institute and Transitioning Well over the next two years.

Minister for Work Health and Safety Sophie Cotsis highlighted the significance of mental health in the workplace.

“It is a fundamental right of every worker to come home safe to their loved ones both physically and mentally,” she said.

“We must all work together to bring about change to make workplaces psychologically safer for workers. If workplaces remain unsafe, I strongly endorse SafeWork’s actions to bring about improvements.”
