NSW focused on advancing mental health and well-being for people working in the construction industry

The NSW Government is launching an initiative throughout construction sites in the state to bolster psychological health and safety in the work environment.

The 'Healthy Minds, Safer Sites' campaign is designed to equip inspectors with the tools and resources necessary to address psychosocial hazards. These hazards include work-related factors and situations that may elicit stress responses, potentially resulting in both psychological distress and physical harm.

As part of the New South Wales Government's Psychological Health and Safety Strategy for 2024-2026, this initiative is funded with $5.6 million over the next two years to facilitate the delivery of mental health programs in the workplace.

According to Sophie Cotsis, the NSW Minister for Work Health and Safety, the cost of mental health challenges in the workplace is projected to amount to $39 billion each year for Australian businesses, resulting from diminished participation and productivity levels.

“The NSW Government is committed to preventing psychological harm and promoting mental health as part of a mentally healthy workplace,” the minister said.
