NHVR draws attention to the dangers of fatigue during Queensland Road Safety Week

OHS Daily News

The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator reminds all road users to confirm their rest and safety levels before driving, given that fatigue continues to be a significant contributor to road fatalities throughout the country.

Queensland Road Safety Week is taking place this week from August 26 to August 30, emphasising the importance of motorists' conduct on the road.

NHVR CEO Sal Petroccitto OAM, states that driver fatigue can lead to catastrophic consequences.

“Fatigue significantly increases the likelihood of any driver behind the wheel being involved in an incident on our roads,” Mr Petroccitto said.

Between January and June 2024, the NHVR recorded over 180 fatigue-related violations within the heavy vehicle industry in Queensland, which included drivers surpassing their allowed work hours or not accurately documenting work and rest periods.
