NHVR advises drivers to exercise caution on the roads during the winter season

The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) is warning drivers of light vehicles to be careful on NSW highways and roads during the snow season, after three deadly crashes with trucks in the Snowy Region in 2023.

According to NHVR Chief Operations Officer Paul Salvati, between June and August of last year, there were five incidents with heavy vehicles in the snowy area, with three resulting in fatalities.

“The Hume, Monaro and Snowy Mountains Highways are key routes for heavy vehicles, and during the winter season traffic increases considerably as light vehicle drivers travel to snow resorts in New South Wales,” Mr Salvati said.

NHVR is advising drivers that trucks need more space to brake safely than cars and road conditions can greatly affect their operation, especially in wet or snowy weather.
