New Zealand company fined after customer loses leg in forklift incident

WorkSafe NZ urges companies dealing with on-site traffic to take heed of the lessons learned from a tragic incident that resulted in a woman losing her lower leg.

The woman was hit by a forklift while standing near the customer service counter in Onehunga in August 2022.

The 68-year-old was quickly transported to the hospital due to the extent of her injuries, resulting in the amputation of her left leg below the knee.

Following an investigation, WorkSafe filed charges against the company for failing to implement a proper traffic management plan to ensure the separation of moving vehicles and pedestrians.

Moreover, investigators discovered that the forklift's lights were not working at the time of the incident.
