New WHS regulations for NSW mines and petroleum sites now in force

The new Work Health and Safety (Mines and Petroleum Sites) Regulation 2022 came into effect on 1 September 2022.

This Regulation replaces the Work Health and Safety (Mines and Petroleum Sites) Regulation 2014, which was repealed on 1 September 2022.

NSW Resources Regulator said, “Among other things, the Regulation implements some of the recommendations of the 2020 Statutory Review into Work Health and Safety (Mines and Petroleum Sites) Laws by Mr Kim Bills.”

The new regulations introduce mandatory dust sampling for non-coal mines where respirable crystalline silica has been identified as a hazard.
