SafeWork SA is commencing a safety initiative designed to lower the rates of workplace fatalities and injuries in the farming industry.

Starting from 1 October 2025, SafeWork SA will conduct a year-long farm safety campaign aimed at lowering the rates of work-related deaths and injuries through the enforcement of Work Health and Safety laws.

The safety watchdog has indicated that it was alerted to six workplace fatalities in the sector, as well as no fewer than 13 serious injuries for the period of 2024-25.

The reported deaths comprised three incidents involving quadbikes, one worker who became trapped in farm machinery and two individuals who were trapped in grain silos.

SafeWork SA's Executive Director, Glenn Farrell, stated that fatalities and severe injuries in the workplace create a lasting emotional toll on families, coworkers, and regional communities.

“SafeWork SA wants to work with farmers to make a safety culture part of agriculture and help reduce the number of workplace incidents,” Glenn said.
