New road rules to protect emergency workers in Queensland

The Queensland Government has announced that new road rules requiring motorists to slow down when passing emergency workers on the roadside will come into effect next month.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said the new measures would give first responders extra protection.

“Our emergency service and first responders do an incredible job, and they play a critical role in roadside incidents,” Mr Bailey said.

“The rule is simple – if you see flashing lights at the roadside, move over and slow down.

The rules will come into effect on 16 September (2022).
