New regulations to protect Victorian workers from harassment

The Victorian Government is set to implement enhanced measures aimed at safeguarding retail workers from assault and abuse.

Premier Jacinta Allan has revealed that her Government will be amending the law to firmly convey that violence towards retail staff and other customer-facing professionals in sectors like transportation and hospitality will not be accepted.

“These new laws will send a powerful message: if you think you can get away with assaulting or abusing these workers – you’re wrong and you will face the consequences,” Ms Allan said.

“These workers deserve nothing but our respect. And we’re going to help make sure they get it.”
