New regulations for electrical safety in the works


The Queensland government has introduced a new bill in parliament to modernise the State's electrical safety laws and adapt to the latest technological developments.

The State Government says the Electrical Safety and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2024 will incorporate the initial phase of recommendations derived from the independent review conducted by Mr. Dick Williams on Queensland's Electrical Safety Act 2002.

The Bill includes a series of electrical safety proposals aimed at enhancing operational efficiencies for the regulator, inspectorate, and the WHS Prosecutor.

Minister for Industrial Relations Grace Grace said, "This Bill ensures that Queensland’s electrical safety framework is contemporary, captures new and emerging technologies, and will make our homes and workplaces safer.”
