New legislation enhances authority of SafeWork NSW
The New South Wales government has successfully passed a law that officially recognises SafeWork NSW as a separate regulatory authority, reinforcing its commitment to worker safety.
The State government says the revised structure will position SafeWork NSW as a powerful, effective, and suitably designed regulator for workplace health and safety.
The newly established independent regulator will include an Advisory Council composed of experts who will offer guidance to the Minister for Work Health and Safety and SafeWork NSW on ways to assist both employees and employers in fostering the safest work environments.
The Council will be formed by representatives from employer groups, trade unions, a workplace health and safety professional, and people who have sustained injuries at work.
