New educational initiative seeks to protect SA roadside workers

A fresh awareness campaign is appealing to South Australian motorists to 'decrease speed for a breakdown' prior to the implementation of a new regulation designed to improve the protection of roadside workers.

Beginning Monday, May 19, drivers will be required to lower their speed to 25 km/h when passing stationary tow trucks, vans, and other roadside breakdown service vehicles that have flashing amber lights on.

The lowered speed limit will be enforced when navigating past bollards or cones placed around a vehicle by a roadside service worker.

The educational initiative encourages motorists to reduce their speed when approaching a breakdown site to ensure the safety of roadside personnel, affected drivers, and passengers as they return to the road.
