SafeWork SA has introduced a fresh campaign focused on businesses dealing with lead to ensure the well-being and safety of their workers.

In the next year, SafeWork SA inspectors will carry out work site inspections and audits in response to lead risk notifications to ensure businesses are fulfilling their legal obligations.

The safety regulator has indicated it will initiate compliance actions against businesses found to have safety violations.

Data from SafeWork SA reveals the safety watchdog received a total of 122 notifications concerning lead risk work in 2024. Thus far in 2025, there have been 55 notifications received.

The Work Health and Safety Regulations 2012 characterise lead risk work as any activity performed in a lead process that has the potential to elevate a worker's blood lead level beyond the established limits.

SafeWork SA's compliance initiative will remain in effect until July 2026.
