National Work Safe Month: NHVR highlights necessity of avoiding driving under fatigue, following concerning figures of offences recorded
The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) is urging heavy vehicle operators to give precedence to their work and rest obligations during this National Work Safe Month, in light of 5,257 fatigue-related violations recorded nationwide in the previous financial year.
NHVR Chief Operations Officer Paul Salvati said that driving while feeling drowsy, or being physically or mentally fatigued, is a serious safety concern.
“Fatigue is more than feeling tired or drowsy, it’s mental and physical exhaustion that reduces your ability to work safely and effectively,” Mr Salvati said.
“Performing any task while fatigued will jeopardise your own safety and drivers endanger more than their own life when getting behind the wheel.”
