National Road Safety Week theme encourages us to 'Drive so Others Survive'
This week marks National Road Safety Week (NRSW), and statistics reveal that around 1,300 individuals lose their lives on Australian roads annually, with an additional 44,000 suffering serious injuries.
During 2024, NSW roads witnessed 334 fatalities, with close to 70 percent of these incidents taking place in regional areas and approximately 40 percent attributed to speeding violations.
The primary theme of National Road Safety Week this year is 'Drive so others Survive', prompting road users to undertake a road safety pledge. As of now, more than 73,000 pledges have been recorded online.
Minister for Roads, Jenny Aitchison MP, commented on National Road Safety Week, highlighting its significance as an annual initiative aimed at increasing awareness of road safety and the measures we can all adopt to improve road safety.
“Road crashes affect more than just the people directly involved,” the minister said.
“They ripple through families, communities, and lives in ways that are often felt long after the crash. Tragically so far this year (as of midnight 8 May) 131 people have lost their lives on NSW roads.”
