Miner killed at WA mine site was run over by a dump truck

Police have revealed that a worker who was killed at a mine site in WA’s Pilbara died after his light vehicle was run over by a dump truck.

The 59-year-old man died at a gold mine site southeast of Newman on Thursday.

Police said the dump truck driver escaped uninjured but was ‘clearly distraught.’

It was the second fatality in a Western Australian mine site in less than a week following the death of a 37-year-old FIFO worker on Tuesday.

Police and WorkSafe are investigating both incidents.
