Melbourne restaurant fined $40,000 after worker sustains injury while using dough mixer

A fine of $40,000 has been imposed on a Melbourne eatery after an employee sustained injuries from a dough mixer machine, which was subsequently operated in violation of directives from WorkSafe inspectors.

The Melbourne Magistrates' Court recently issued a sentence to the business following its guilty plea to two charges under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

The company received a $25,000 fine for not ensuring the safety and health of their plant and a $15,000 fine for not following a prohibition notice.

In May 2023, while mixing ingredients, a 31-year-old worker's hand got caught by a mixing blade and was dragged into the machine, resulting in the skin on his right hand being degloved.
