Melbourne metal company fined for safety failures after worker’s crush death
A Melbourne metal company has been fined for breaching workplace safety regulations after a worker was crushed to death in February 2021.
The company was fined $280,000 after pleading guilty to failing to provide and maintain safe plant.
The worker was found trapped between a machine and a table. He sustained serious crush injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A WorkSafe investigation found the machine was not properly guarded.
"This worker was only 46 when his life was cut short due to a lack of guarding," WorkSafe Executive Director of Health and Safety Narelle Beer said.
