Melbourne indoor play centre faces charges following serious fall that injured child

WorkSafe has filed charges against a Melbourne indoor play centre after an eight-year-old child experienced a fractured spine from a fall of about seven metres from a rope ladder.

WorkSafe accuses the centre of three offences under section 23(1) of the Occupational Health and Safety Act for not ensuring that non-employees were not at risk of health and safety hazards.

The safety watchdog claims the company did not sufficiently inspect, maintain, and replace their climbing safety equipment to minimise the risk of accidental falls.

The issue is set for a filing hearing at Melbourne Magistrates' Court on 28 March 2024.
