Melbourne bakery faces manslaughter charges after worker’s fatal fall

A Melbourne bakery has been charged with workplace manslaughter charges after a labourer fell 4m to their death.

The 53-year-old worker fell onto a concrete floor while working at a Melbourne warehouse in August 2021.

WorkSafe Victoria said the company also faces additional charges under the OHS Act for failing to provide a safe working environment and failing to prepare a safe work method statement.

The safety watchdog further alleges the company failed to ensure a workplace was safe and free from risks.

The company is expected in court on 24 May 2023.
