Man sustains severe injuries after boat fuel tank explodes in southeast NSW

A man is in critical condition after a fuel tank exploded while he was working on a recreational boat at a home in Illawarra.

According to ABC News, witnesses recounted hearing a "bang" originating from a home in Lake Heights at about 10am on Sunday morning.

Emergency crews arrived at the scene to find a man, aged in his fifties, on the ground, just meters from a damaged boat.

He sustained cuts and burns on his head and face following the incident.

He received on-site treatment from paramedics before being flown to Royal North Shore Hospital for further treatment.
