Man dies after a vehicle related workplace incident in Canberra’s north

A man has been killed in a vehicle-related workplace incident in Taylor in Canberra’s north.

The 43-year-year-old man was working on a construction site when he was pinned by the trailer of a truck.

Paramedics were called to the Wednesday afternoon incident shortly before 11.30am.

The man died at the scene.

CFMEU ACT spokesman Zachary Smith said the man was working near the construction site when the incident happened.

"It's absolutely heartbreaking that we have another fatality in the Canberra construction industry," Mr Smith said.

"My deepest condolences and that of the CFMEU are extended to his family, his friends and his work colleagues.

"It's absolutely tragic to think that worker won't return home tonight to his family, [won't] see his mates again."

Mr Smith urged people to make safety a priority ahead of Christmas break.

"We're approaching what is traditionally a really busy time of the year as people are trying to get things done before Christmas," he said.

"That rush is only going to be exacerbated by the COVID lockdown.

"We've had to just remind everyone to prioritise safety and to make sure that in the mad push between now and Christmas that we don't take our eyes off safety.
