Landlord fined for workplace safety failures in Queensland crane incident

A Queensland court has recently fined a landlord for safety failings after a worker was injured when debris from a crane fell on him.

According to Workplace Health and Safety Queensland, the worker was operating a crane moving large steel sheets when debris fell from the crane. The man sustained multiple injuries after being hit by falling debris.

The Southport Magistrates Court heard that the landlord failed to ensure the building was without risks to the health and safety of people in the workplace, contrary to Queensland's WHS Act 2011.

The company was fined $75,000 and ordered to pay costs of $600.
