Kings Park memorial service commemorates firefighters who have made the ultimate sacrifice
A special service was held in Kings Park on Sunday to honour 100 Western Australian firefighters who lost their lives while working to safeguard communities.
International Firefighters' Day is observed annually, allowing the families of deceased firefighters to unite with both active and retired emergency services members to honour their sacrifices.
Emergency Services Minister Paul Papalia said the residents of Western Australia hold great pride in their emergency services workers who assist them in times of peril.
"On International Firefighters' Day we take the opportunity to reflect on the brave individuals who made the ultimate sacrifice to keep our State safe,” the minister said.
"It is important their sacrifices are not forgotten and we gather today to stand in support alongside their families, loved ones and colleagues as their names are added to the Honour Roll in the Firefighters' Memorial Grove in Kings Park."
