Key sectors on WorkSafe's watchlist to minimise injuries
WorkSafe Victoria has recently revealed it will focus on five key industries in the upcoming year to help achieve its ambitious objectives for decreasing workplace fatalities and injuries across the state.
The workplace safety watchdog indicates that the key sectors of health care and social assistance, construction, government, agriculture, and manufacturing have collectively represented nearly 60 percent of all fatalities related to work and approved workplace injury claims over the last five years.
WorkSafe Chief Health and Safety Officer Sam Jenkin said the revised approach is integral to a strategy designed to meet significant five-year goals detailed in the WorkSafe Victoria Strategy – encompassing a thirty percent reduction in fatal incidents and a twenty percent reduction in injuries.
"WorkSafe has set ambitious prevention targets for the next five years – but we know we can't influence change and improve safety on our own," Mr Jenkin said.
Jenkin added that they will maintain discussions with stakeholders and collaborate closely with the industry to guarantee that every employer is not only informed of their responsibilities but also comprehends the importance and methods of prioritising safety.
