Joint inspection blitz uncovers safety failings

WorkSafe Victoria and SafeWork NSW inspected more than 40 construction sites last month, issuing improvement notices and holding information sessions.

The joint inspection blitz focused on working at height safety and exposure to crystalline silica dust in workplaces along the Victoria-NSW border.

SafeWork NSW Acting Director Construction Services Regional Nathan Hamilton said falls under four metres is the leading cause of deaths in the construction industry.

WorkSafe Director Construction and Earth Resources Matt Wielgosz said inspectors from both agencies would continue working with workers and employers to help them understand their health and safety duties.
