Heavy vehicle safety projects get $3.5 million funding boost

The Australian Government will provide $3.5 million to the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator to support heavy vehicle safety.

NHVR will invest the funds into fifteen heavy vehicle projects through Round 7 of its Heavy Vehicle Safety Initiative (HVSI) program.

In the last six years, the Federal Government has invested in 132 HVSI projects to improve safety in the heavy vehicle industry.

Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Minister Catherine King said, “to make Australia’s roads safer for the growing transport and logistics sector, we have listened to what the industry said they need and are supporting the safety projects that will make a real impact to their day-to-day operations.”

NHVR Chief Executive Officer Sal Petroccitto urged all those who have an idea on how to improve heavy vehicle safety to apply for Round 8 of the HVSI program.
