Heavy vehicle operators urged to be wary of fatigue this holiday season

The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) reminds heavy vehicle drivers to stay alert on the road and protect their health and wellbeing this festive season.

NHVR CEO Sal Petroccitto urged drivers to watch out for the five signs of fatigue.

“As we know, fatigue can impact every individual differently and it’s possible for drivers to be affected even when they are compliant with their work and rest limits.” Mr Petroccitto said.

“We are reminding drivers to be vigilant and aware of the five indicators of fatigue – inattention, irregular body movements, erratic vehicle movements, dull sensory alertness or poor concentration.

Mr Petroccitto said drivers should stop and take a rest anytime they notice the signs of fatigue.
