Former miners encouraged to undergo testing for undetected silicosis, COPD, and black lung disease
Data from Resources Safety and Health Queensland (RSHQ) indicates that approximately 10% of ex-miners assessed throughout central Queensland have been identified with a lung disease caused by mine dust.
The Former Worker Program of RSHQ provides complimentary lung screenings for ex-mine and quarry employees in Queensland via the HEART5 Mobile Health Unit to identify health issues that might remain undetected.
Dean Barr, the Executive Director of Occupational Health at RSHQ, announced that they will be visiting central Queensland shortly, including stops in Emerald, Clermont and Blackwater in October.
In November and December, HEART5 will visit Rockhampton and Mackay.
“We’re proud to be expanding these important free lung checks to Blackwater, and to be returning to Clermont, Emerald, Rockhampton and Mackay this year. Bookings are essential so please give us a call,” Mr Barr said.
