Former Mackay miners encouraged to assess their lung health
Retired miners are being urged to take advantage of complimentary lung health screenings when the HEART5 mobile clinic comes to Mackay this month.
Heart of Australia operates the service in collaboration with Resources Safety and Health Queensland (RSHQ).
The B-double truck is equipped with advanced medical screening technology and traverses regional and remote Queensland, delivering tests designed to detect lung diseases linked to mine dust.
RSHQ's Director of Health Strategy and Compliance Patrick Jensen emphasised the significance of conducting these tests, even years after leaving the industry, as occupational lung diseases may take a decade or longer to manifest.
"Many former workers may not have symptoms or be aware they have a disease," said Mr Jensen.
