Forklift driver sentenced for workers compensation fraud

A Victorian forklift operator has been sentenced for working while receiving workers compensation benefits.

The 35-year-old man pleaded guilty in the Melbourne Magistrates' Court to one count of workers compensation fraud after he was found working as a driver while receiving compensation payments.

The man was ordered to repay more than $48 000 to the Victorian workers’ compensation scheme.

WorkSafe Insurance Business Unit Executive Director Roger Arnold said anyone violating workers compensation rules will be prosecuted.

"People who think they can get away with defrauding the compensation scheme for their own personal gain should think again – we have zero tolerance for fraudsters," Mr Arnold said.
