Federal Government provides $3 million to protect workers from occupational lung diseases
The Federal Government is taking measures to protect workers from dust lung diseases in Australia and eradicate silicosis, a lung disease caused by breathing silica dust.
Nearly a quarter of all workers who have been in the engineered stone industry since before 2018 have silicosis.
The Australian Government has recently announced that it will provide $3.95 million to Lung Foundation Australia to raise awareness of silica dust exposure and aid research efforts.
“This grant will fund targeted education and communication activities to prevent workers from developing dust diseases and raise awareness of the risks of working in dust generating industries—including construction, tunnelling, mining and quarrying,” the federal Government said in a recent media statement.
