Fatigue breaches prompt two improvement notices for heavy vehicle operators

The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) has recently issued improvement notices to two companies for breaching fatigue regulations.

An investigation conducted by the heavy vehicle regulator identified multiple work diaries, work hours, and fatigue issues.

Under the Improvement Notices, the companies are required to take immediate action to prevent further breaches.

NHVR said, “Both companies must take corrective action and deliver activities including formal training, weekly and fortnightly audits, revised scheduling, Driver Safe Journey Plans, and non-conformance policies.”

“It was clear from the evidence that the conduct of both companies put road users at risk of harm,” NHVR Director of Investigations Steve Underwood said.

“An improvement notice enables the offenders to improve their safety and compliance systems quickly, with the NHVR monitoring the required notice activities to remedy the situation.”
