Fatal fall results in $390,000 fine for Victorian building firm

A Victorian building company has been fined $390,000 after a worker fell to his death at a construction site in Melbourne.

The company had earlier pleaded guilty to two counts of violating workplace safety regulations following the incident in April 2020.

WorkSafe said the 26 -year-old man fell about two metres from scaffolding and landed on a concrete floor.

He was transported to hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

WorkSafe data shows four Victorian workers have died this year after falling from height while more than 350 have suffered serious injuries.

WorkSafe Executive Director of Health and Safety Narelle Beer urged employers to put safety first when working at height.
