Fallen mine workers to be honoured at sombre service
Queensland will host the biggest memorial event for mining incidents next month, paying tribute to the 1,508 miners who have died on the job.
Every year on 19 September, the industry gathers to remember the lives lost during the state's deadliest coal mining tragedy at Mount Mulligan in 1921, where 75 miners perished.
The Miners Memorial Day Service is organised by Resources Safety and Health Queensland (RSHQ), and this year it will take place at the Collinsville-Scottville Workers Club in north Queensland.
RSHQ CEO Rob Djukic remarked that this day carries significant emotional weight, as people are making their way from all corners of the state to join the service.
