Extreme weather triggers WorkSafe alert for outdoor workers

WorkSafe is encouraging businesses operating in areas affected by weather conditions to put in place comprehensive procedures to protect their workforce, as red rain alerts continue to be in effect in certain areas of the North Island.
According to WorkSafe, any outdoor work that is not essential ought to be delayed.
WorkSafe’s Acting Northern Regional Manager Jason Gibson said risks can frequently change in harsh outdoor environments.
“Emergency response procedures should be under constant review. If workers are out in the adverse weather they should take into consideration the changes in conditions – there needs to be an ongoing dynamic risk assessment.”
