Defence facing WHS charges over crocodile attack on soldiers
The Department of Defence is facing charges after two soldiers were injured in a crocodile attack two years ago.
The soldiers were swimming at Portland Roads in far north Queensland on 6 August 2021 when they were attacked by a 2.5 metre saltwater crocodile.
They were taken to hospital with multiple injuries.
The federal work health and safety regulator, Comcare said on Friday it had filed charges against the department for failing to train workers and to provide a safe system of work.
The department could face a maximum fine of $1.5 million.
