Defence faces charges over employee’s death
The Department of Defence is facing three charges under the federal WHS Act 2011 following an incident that led to the death of one of its workers.
The charges relate to an incident in which a Defence technician took his life while on duty on 28 July 2020.
Federal WHS regulator Comcare alleges that the Department of Defence failed to provide, so far as reasonably practicable, safe systems of work and the necessary training to workers.
The Defence Department faces up to $2.5 million in fines if convicted.
