Darwin business facing charges over gas explosion

A Northern Territory family business has been charged with workplace safety breaches after a gas exploded at a Darwin restaurant, injuring five patrons.

The five patrons were cooking their meal on a barbeque appliance when the incident occurred in September this year.

WorkSafe has charged the business with six breaches of theWork Health and Safety Act following the incident.

The safety watchdog has also laid six alternative charges under Section 32 of the same Act.

If convicted of all charges, the business faces a maximum fine of $18 million.
