Cross-border blitz helps improve construction safety

Workplace safety inspectors issued a total of 47 improvement notices during a recent construction blitz on the NSW/Victoria border.

WorkSafe Victoria and SafeWork NSW inspectors visited more than 35 construction sites in Echuca and Moama with a focus on height safety and asbestos exposure.

WorkSafe Victoria said, “Inspectors identified safety concerns such as falls risks, inadequate workplace facilities, electrical safety issues and inadequate site housekeeping.”

Victoria’s workplace safety regulator says the five-day safety blitz is part of the Cross Border Construction Program, whose main objective is to ensure construction businesses on the Victoria-NSW border are WHS compliant.
