Charges laid over alleged attack on nurses

A Queensland health service is facing charges over claims it failed to protect its staff.

The charges have been laid by the state’s Office of the Work Health and Safety Prosecutor over two incidents.

According to ABC News, one incident happened in July 2019 when a nurse was attacked by a male patient. She suffered brain injuries as a result of the incident. And in a separate incident, a female nurse had a knife held to her throat in November 2020.

The health service faces four counts of failing to ensure the safety of workers.

It faces a $1.5 million fine for each offence if found guilty.
